How would you describe the relationship between Turkey and its sibling country Qatar?
Our relationship with Qatar, with which we have formed long -established amicable ties, have been in fast development and nearly perfect in all aspects. I see that the frequent mutual visits have greatly increased this relationship’s momentum. I also find it satisfying to see close collaboration and coordination in regional economic matters. The first meeting of Supreme Strategic Committee Meeting, which was initiated in 2014 as a high-level dialogue and collaboration mechanism between two countries, was held in Doha on December 2nd, 2015. The second meeting was in Trabzon on December 18, 2016, and the third one in Doha on November 15, 2017 with my personal attendance. These meetings paved the way for signing many agreements, protocols, and memorandums of understanding which will further cement our collaboration in many areas. For our ministerial jurisdiction, we signed with Qatar a Memorandum of Understanding in Agriculture, and a Memorandum of Understanding in Food Safety. I believe that these agreements will further improve the agricultural collaboration and commerce between our countries. During the embargo imposed on Qatar by a few countries, especially in June, Turkey stood by its Qatari brothers and sisters. We provided Qatar with an immediate transport for food products to
help them overcome the challenges that posed a threat for food safety.

Are there any projects you’d like to carry out in collaboration with Qatar?
Between October 20 and 22, 2017, Abdullah Al-Rumaihi, Minister of Municipality and Environment, State of Qatar, paid an official visit to Turkey as my guest. During this visit, I had the opportunity to personally meet him, and we talked about which areas would be good for potential collaborations. As you may know, Qatar has limited agricultural resources. Therefore, it bears great importance for both countries id Qatari government and private industry make investments in Turkey, especially in agriculture. As a result of these frequent meetings between two countries, there have been negotiations for collaboration and commerce between Qatar and Turkish companies. I see that Turkish investors are very enthusiastic about doing business and collaborating with Qatar. Minister Al-Rumaihi invited me to the International Agricultural Exhibition in Qatar in March 2018. Turkish contracting companies undertake major roles in building sports facilities and stadiums in Qatar for 2022 World Cup.
Do you have a message for those who’d like to invest in areas that fall under your ministry’s Jurisdiction?
Under the influence of Foreign Direct Investment Law effective since 2003, Turkish Economy has witnessed major developments in the last decade. We replaced the permit and approval system for building a company with an informative system; decreased the bureaucratic obstacles faced by foreign investors; provided them with equal treatment same as local investors. Foreign investors now can benefit from the incentives offered by the Republic of Turkey same as local investors. We gave them with a right to own immovable property, and to transfer money abroad. By signing bilateral agreements with different countries, especially Customs Unions, Turkey has become an influential player in export and import. The company tax rate is 20% in Turkey while it’s around 25-35% in the world. We have an educated and motivated professional workforce with a young population of 27.2 million. Comparing the workforce cost in agriculture, we’re more advantaged than average in Europe and the rest of the world.
Would you like to send a message to the people of Qatar?
I’d like my Qatari siblings to know that Turkey will always stand by them. Collaborating in all areas, especially manufacture, investment and commerce, will accelerate the development of both countries, and increase the wealth of the people. I’d like to express my complete faith in this matter, and send good
wishes to the people of Qatar.
