Turkey’s Tekfen Holding to construct it at an approximately $2.1 billion…
Al Khor Express highway ..a milestone
The infrastructure sector in Qatar has witnessed significant growth and progress during the last couple of years, particularly in highway projects executed by Public Works Authority (Ashghal), which will be implementing an integrated transport system to serve all parts of the State, and characterized with a strengthening flow of high global traffic and safety standards.
The Al Khor Expressway Project, which is implemented by Turkish company Tekfen, and is considered one of the largest highway projects in Qatar with an estimated cost of around $2 billion. The project aims to build a 34-kilometerlong highway incorporating 10 lanes along with viaducts, road junctions, overpasses and underpasses starting from the southern part of the (golf) club extending all the way to Al Beit Stadium. The company will complete the project in 36 months.
This project is aligned with a bundle of expressway projects to be executed by Ashghal, which aims to link all the major cities with Doha by the first quarter of 2019 to improve traffic flow from Doha to Al Khor and Vise-versa.
Al Khor expressway represents great importance due to its role in improving traffic flow and decreasing road accidents in surrounding areas starting from Lusail, Simaisma, Al Dhakira cities, the Ras Laffan area, and other lively locations, like Al Beit Stadium. The project includes the construction of a five-lane highway in each direction, including the construction of 10 multi-level intersections and a rapid cycling route along the project, as well as a joint pedestrian and bicycle route. The Al Khor Expressway project will be a great example of collaboration between Qatar and Turkey in the field of construction.
